Colorado, my home away from home. I’ve been going to Beaver Creek, outside of Vail, Colorado since I was a baby. My grandparents have owned a timeshare there since before I was born. It’s very near and dear to my heart, and a magical place to be fortunate enough to vacation to. This year Tom and I were accompanied by my brother, Sam, and our friends, Michelle and Ryan.
This vacation was much needed! I find the holidays to be very stressful and was ready to start 2018 with a little R & R. Not to mention I couldn’t wait to hit the slopes for the first time in a year. I’ve been skiing since I was three, and I hate to sound like a snob, but Virginia trails have nothing on Colorado slopes.
We arrived on Saturday and headed straight to the Gashouse, a favorite local restaurant. After lunch and getting checked-in to the condo we wandered around the village for a bit until grabbing pizza at the Blue Moose. We enjoyed a low key pizza party in our hotel room and started the newest season of Black Mirror. Like I said much needed R & R, plus we were waking up early to hit the slopes.
Sunday we started the morning at a local crepe place in the village before hitting the slopes for the day. After skiing we ended the night at the Ritz-Carlton at Bachelor’s Gulch for dinner, followed by dessert in their cigar lounge. Bachelor’s Lounge has outdoor seating with heaters, fire pits, and flat screen tv’s. We finished the night with dessert and a mug of Bailey’s hot chocolate.
Monday we headed into Vail Village to wander around and do some shopping. We stopped for beers at Vail Brewing Co. and sat outside enjoying the unseasonal warm weather. In fact, Colorado has has a bit of a snow drought this year. Fortunately for us that changed during our trip and they got about a foot towards the end of the week.
Tuesday we woke up and drove an hour East to Keystone to ski and then finished the night on the couch. Half our team was out for the count from skiing and the other half was feeling under the weather.

Wednesday we headed into Edwards to explore and had lunch at the Gore Range Brewery. It was really starting to snow at this point so we headed back to the condo to hang in the outdoor hot tub. It was another relaxing night by the fire in the condo.
Thursday and Friday we skied our asses off. After skiing on Thursday we headed to a restaurant about 50 feet outside our door, The Metropolitan, a chic and relaxed tapas bar. We took advantage of happy hour and stayed a few hours enjoying small plates and cocktails.
Friday night, our last night in Colorado (*tear*), we ended our vacation with some amazing Italian food. We went to Toscanini, another Beaver Creek knock out. FYI, it’s hard to find bad food in/around Vail, Colorado…everything is amazing.
Needless to say, it was an amazing week. We skied, shopped, ate our weight in food, and relaxed…just what the doctor ordered. It was a snow bunnies vacation. If we weren’t skiing or exploring, we were eating, Netflix binging and drinking the best hot chocolate in the world (found in the lobby) while taking a dip in the hot tub.
Beaver Creek, until next year…
